The Daily Grace - Grace to the Humble

Pride cannot give us what we want. James says, "You want something but don't get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God." (4:2) The reason pride cannot give us what we want is because God opposes the proud. (4:6) God will not allow pride and arrogance to rule. God will not and cannot give a proud person the desires of their heart.

God's judgement is against the proud who oppress others to get what they want. The proud are planning their lives without God. They boast about their plans for the future. (4:13-16) They fail to realize it is God's judgement, which awaits them in the future. But, God always leads His children to humble themselves before one another, beloved.

When grace is effective, when grace is poured out, when God is gracious to this congregation, then we shall be humble before one another. There shall not be strife in our families. There shall not be strife between brother and sister. There shall not be strife between children and parents. Well, that strife is always selfish. And that strife is always proud. And that strife is not the walk of faith. Never is strife that fruit of faith - not when you stand against one another.

  1. I pray I will reconnect with a friend in spite of a very meaningless fight we had. My pride and anger got the best of me. I ask that if anyone reads this, you send up a small prayer for me. Amen!
